5 signs your gutters need attention

A quick look from ground level can help you spot when your gutters may need attention. Here are five things worth mentioning when you contact a gutter cleaner.

Look for changes during rain

Water spilling over an edge, dripping repeatedly at a joint or running down an outside wall can be a reason to arrange an assessment. Note where it happens and whether it appears only during heavy rain. A description of the location helps make the first conversation more useful.

Notice what is collecting

Leaves gathered at the roofline, visible plant growth and moss collecting around a gutter are other signs worth pointing out. These observations do not identify the full cause on their own: a blockage, damaged component or alignment problem may need a closer look.

Keep a simple record

The five things to note are overflow, persistent joint drips, wall staining, visible debris or growth, and a gutter section that looks out of line. If you can safely photograph an issue from the ground, keep the photo ready to share. Avoid climbing up just to take a closer look.
